In class we were talking about representation, on how it represents specific type of things if they do it right or wrong. We saw representations that represented things accurate and others that did it wrong to make the audience believe different things. Representation is important because of that. It shows us things about the world we don't know so we end up relying on them. In any way the presentation is done that's how the people with no experience on that subject will view those things from now on. On the other hand, the people with experience on those subjects will sometimes see it as wrong as they have a different point of view of what happened to them. Representation is important because it easily influences on how people view things. Today I will show you 3 types of media that are meant to represent me.

Grease (1978)

Grease is about two teens that fall in love with each other but can't be together because they are in different cliques in high school. The girl is a part of the preppy girl group meanwhile the guy is a part of the rebels or as the greasers. Two very different groups that can't be seen together so they stay apart or hidden. It is true on how they show that teen love can be hard when you are different from one another and are scared that others may not accept you or will judge you, but the main point of this movie was to represent the message that you need to change yourself to make a man like you which I think is wrong to do. I think the movie represents teen love good on some parts because I can relate to the part of being different from the other person and feeling judged, but I don't think it's right in where you have to change yourself to be liked by the person you like. This movie just portrays how a boyfriend is all you need in life and that you need to change for that man, but you don't. The person that is creating this representation is the director, Randal Kleiser. I don't think he has a experience on what he is representing because he isn't a female and doesn't know what goes through their minds.

The Breakfast Club (1985)

"The Breakfast Club" is about 5 teens that get into Saturday detention in high school. They are all from different cliques. One is a rebel, the other is an outcast, the other is a jock, the other one is a popular girl, and the last one is a nerd. All completely different people stuck in a library together doing nothing. With them being stuck they start getting to know one another since they usually never bother to talk to each other. As it gets to the end, they start noticing that they actually get along and aren't very different from one another. The overall representation of this movie is that there are many cliques in the world, and they don't talk with them because they think they are all different just because of the way they look or act meaning you don't truly know someone until you actually interact with them. I think this movie represents high school good with the cliques because we may all be different but at some point, we are the same. From my own experiences in my school, I've had times where I don't talk to the other person because they are in a different group until one day I'll talk with them and realize that we are the same.

10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

In "10 Things I Hate About You" it focuses on two sisters that are in high school. The younger sister wants to date people, but the dad doesn't allow her until the older sister starts dating though she hates dating and finds it immature. One boy wants to date the younger sister but in order to be able to do that he pays another guy to try to date the older sister. While he's convincing her to like him, she actually catches feelings, and the guy soon does too. Though at the end she finds out that she was just a bet and leaves him. The entire movie focuses on her personality on how she's independent and way more mature than anybody else in the school. I can relate to this representation about high school drama because it shows when these things happen you get to learn on society like relationships and friendships.
